Midwest Games Chooses Lisbon as Strategic Hub for European Growth

The publisher is building a distributed network across Europe around its flexible, modular approach to publishing

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (August 20, 2026) | Midwest Games today announced plans to establish a presence in Lisbon, Portugal, marking the publisher’s expansion into Europe.

The move will bring Midwest Games closer to publishers, developers, and partners across Europe while creating stronger connections to talent and expertise beyond the industry’s traditional publishing centers. From Portugal, Midwest Games will build on its existing relationships across Europe while developing new partnerships throughout the region.

Midwest Games has long operated on the belief that great teams and great games can come from anywhere. Its move into Portugal puts that idea into practice, giving the company a strategic base to support more teams across regions with the flexibility, resources, and expertise they actually need.

“There’s impressive work happening consistently across Europe, and we want to be closer to the teams driving it,” said Ben Kvalo, founder and CEO of Midwest Games. “Portugal gives us a foothold in the region and an opportunity to build stronger relationships with developers, publishers, and other partners across Europe. It’s also an important step in expanding how and where Midwest Games operates beyond North America.”

Midwest Games’ presence at gamescom 2026 will also mark the first public activation of its new relationship with Portugal, with the team exhibiting as part of the Portuguese B2B pavilion in Hall 4.1, Booth C020g. Founder and CEO Ben Kvalo, along with members of Midwest Games’ leadership and publishing teams, will be available throughout the show to meet with publishers, developers, media, and potential partners.

The move also brings Midwest Games’ flexible, modular publishing model into Europe. Rather than relying on a traditional all-or-nothing model, Midwest offers publishing and commercialization support based on where a publisher or developer needs help most. That approach allows Midwest to work alongside existing teams and partners, providing specific resources and expertise without forcing every relationship into the same structure.

Midwest has already put that model to work with European publishers, including Mindscape® and remote control productions, supporting partners based on their specific commercial and publishing needs. The company is now looking to build on those relationships and work with more publishers across the region.

Barcelona-based developer Melbot Studios and its upcoming action roguelite GodsTV are another example of the model in action, showing how Midwest can also work directly with development teams when targeted publishing support makes sense.

Midwest Games has also expanded its leadership team as it grows its publishing business and international network. Earlier this year, Adam Orth joined as Chief Operating Officer, Cisco Maldonado as Chief Strategy Officer, and Charlotte Cook as an Executive Advisor for Europe. Together, they bring experience across game publishing, business development, commercial strategy, partnerships, and portfolio growth.
